Commercial divers inspect and repair bridges, dams, docks, ships and offshore oil and wind platforms. They weld, cut, take photos and video, and install equipment, often in cold, dark water with almost no visibility. Most start as tenders who help divers from the surface. The work can mean weeks away from home, and it is dangerous without strict safety habits.
